Courteney Cox says she was unable to recognize how far she had gone with fillers during her efforts to turn back the clock as a young woman.
The Friends actress, 58, described the vicious cycle she went through to maintain her appearance during an appearance on the podcast Gloss Angeles and expressed regret at having the procedure done.
While Cox initially thought she looked fine after receiving the fillers, it wasn’t apparent to her how ‘off’ she really seemed until much later.
“I thought I was getting older when I was really young,” she began. ‘Tis just a skirt, a waste of time; it’s a domino effect, it’s like you don’t realize you look a little bit, then you keep doing more because you look normal to yourself and you look in the mirror and go, “Oh , it looks good,” she said.
‘You don’t understand what it looks like to the outside person and just do too many fillers and then you have to have them removed, which thank God can be removed, but I think I messed up a lot and now, thankfully, I could turn most of it, and now I’m actually just getting older’.
Courteney says she’s in disbelief every time she finds old photos of herself taken from her filler era.
“I look at pictures of me from when I thought I looked okay and I can’t believe it,” she admitted.
She also said: ‘My publicist wouldn’t let me post this but I would say like a before or what I was and what I am and then the caption would be “oh that’s what my friend was talking about,” Because when someone talks to you (about fillers) and says, “Honey, I don’t know,” you’re like, “What?!” I did nothing here and nothing there” and you don’t realize that it probably flowed down.”
Courteney has been candid about how her efforts to stay youthful actually backfired.
Last year, the actress admitted that she initially tried to struggle with looking older with various ‘injections’ and other treatments, but eventually realized she was going ‘crazy’ and is now trying to age gracefully.
She told Sunday Times Style magazine: ‘There was a time when you said, “Oh, I’m changing. I look older.” And I tried to chase it (youth) for years.
“And I didn’t realize that I actually look really weird with injections and doing things to my face that I would never do now.”
She pondered whether to post a photo on Instagram from those days compared to now, adding: ‘I was going to say, “The day you realize what your friends were talking about.”
‘Because people wanted to talk about me, I think. But there was a period where I said, “I have to stop. This is just crazy.”
While she has given up cosmetic procedures, Courteney loves trying new products because she still puts a lot of ‘intense’ pressure on herself to look good.
She said: ‘The examination is intense, but I don’t know if it could be more intense than what I imposed on myself.
‘I’m a product whore. I’ll try anything.’
The former Friends star also said she ‘can’t believe’ her next milestone birthday will be 60.
She said: ‘Oh God, it’s so hard to even hear or say. I can not believe it. There’s nothing wrong with being 60, I just can’t believe it. Time goes by so fast.
‘There’s no doubt that I’m more grounded, I’ve learned so much in my life – what to enjoy, what to try to do more of and what to let go of.’
