Keanu Reeves had a lovely reaction to learning a bacterium was named after him.
The actor who promoted the upcoming fourth John Wick movie, did a Reddit AMA where he answered many fans’ questions and gave previously unheard insight into both his career and personal life.
But one question taught Reeves something about his heritage he didn’t know about.
Redditor mrweb06 asked The matrix star:
“Hi Keanu, Scientists from Germany found a compound naturally produced by a type of bacteria that is so effective at killing fungi that they named it after you: keanumycins.
Quote: “The lipopeptides kill so effectively that we named them after Keanu Reeves because he is also extremely deadly in his roles,” Götze said in a statement. What are your thoughts on that? Have a good day too.”

Reeves was surprised to hear the news.
“…Hey thanks…they should have called it John Wick…but it’s pretty cool…and surreal to me,” he wrote. “But thanks, scientists! Good luck, and thanks for helping us.”
Elsewhere in the AMAs, Reeves had an adorable exchange with someone who said their wife would like to be Reeves’ wife. “Ha!… No she doesn’t,” replied the humble actor.
He also shared a story about having a paranormal experience, noting, “When I was a little kid, I was sitting in a room with a nanny and I thought I saw a ghost in the doorway and I looked over at my nanny, and she looked really. scared…I didn’t know what the hell was going on.”
