Well, would you look at the time. The Nintendo Switch watch game you may have seen in the deals section of the eShop just celebrated its 21st release on the digital storefront. Bravo, but where did all these games come from in such a short time?

First released back in 2021, publisher RedDeerGames’ AAA watch is, yes, a smart retro flip digital clock with a wide range of display options for the Switch. If you’ve read the “balls on a budget” low-price section of the eShop, chances are you’re more than aware of AAA watchs many releases on the shop front.
As of this release, there are 20 versions of AAA watch and five versions of its sequel game, the aptly titled AAA watch 2, on Nintendo Switch. (At least as far as I can tell. Let’s be honest, all of these releases start to bleed into another at a certain point, and my eyes can play tricks on me.) Like Bandai Namco Entertainment’s Taiko no Tatsujin series, AAA watch‘s overcrowding of the Switch store is due to it constantly being sold in bundles with its many expansion packs. To RedDeerGames’ credit, the names of AAA watch‘s many editions are as different as one Devil May Cry 5 style gauge.
For posterity, the names of AAA watch expansions (in chronological release order) are Deluxe, Ultimate, Extended, Cyber Protocol, Premium, Definitive, Special, Complete, National 🫡, Pixel, Platinum, Elegant, Director’s Cut, GOTY, Happy, Magnificent, and Superb Edition. So far, AAA watch 2 only has a Premium Edition, which completely ignores the entire release date of expansion names that RedDeerGames had so eloquently established with its predecessor.

AAA watch more than justifies its existence from an aesthetic point of view given the Switch’s black or white wallpaper options. In addition to turning your handheld into a portable timekeeping device, AAA watch also has a nice side-scrolling action-platformer “hidden” in it for those who need to spice up their observation of the passage of time.
